What California Code Compliance Really Means for an ADU

California has statewide ADU laws intended to make accessory dwelling units easier to build. The exact scope depends on the condition of the existing building and the local building department. An ADU over a garage, for example, often carries more structural coordination than a simple single-story detached unit. Energy Compliance Is Part of the Design
